Since I’ve been asked several times how I create balance when decorating, I thought I would let you all in on my little secret! It’s so simple really, you’ll be kicking yourself when you read this next line! Work with odd numbers. It sounds weird, I know. Our logical brains automatically think evens to even things out! But decorating with odd numbers truly creates harmony throughout your home. So the next time you have a blank wall to decorate, think 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9. For example:

Here I hung three large objects: the frame, the small black shelf, and the long white shelf. Then to accessorize:

I first put up 1 large piece of artwork. I then put up 5 framed photos, followed by 3 cohesive accessories. Are you getting it now?

How about a smaller example:

1. Shelf

2. Photo

3. Accessory

And you’re done! It’s as simple as that!
